Meet Our Staff
The Reverend Jes Kast
Pastor
The Rev. Jes Kast was called to Faith UCC January 1, 2019 as our Settled Pastor. Raised in Michigan, Pastor Jes adopted the United Church of Christ (UCC) as her home. The UCC is a home of wide welcome and affirmation rooted in good theology.
Reverend Kast received a Master of Divinity at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan where she received accolades in pastoral care and justice ministry. She continued her education in a two year continuing education justice program where she explored how liturgy and the gathering of the people of God inform how we act in the way of justice, love mercy, and live humbly with each other (Micah 6:8).
Our pastor was ordained in Holland, Michigan and then was called to serve West End Collegiate Church in New York City for nine years where she was tasked to help lead their outreach ministry called A Taste of Heaven. Duke Divinity’s Faith and Leadership wrote about her ministry here. While she loves New York City very much, she began to sense a call from the city after the 2016 election to help bring healing and desired a not so fast pace of life.
The passion and faith brought by our pastor, Reverend Jes Kast, has brought growth, energy, and spiritual nourishment. Her innovative leadership during the pandemic gathered us in kayaks for kayak church which the Washington Post wrote about here.
You can see examples of her messages here.
Reverend Kast is married to her wife Dr. Jessy Defenderfer and together they have two cats and an adorable new puppy, Charlie. Our pastor enjoys gardening, good coffee, working out, and laughing with others.
She can be reached at pastorjesfaithucc@gmail.com.
